Lucky Shorts!

Back to London (Jack London, that is) next week, faithful readers. This week, it’s all about Shorts. Short stories, that is, read aloud. A simple and increasingly rare pleasure.

Lucky Penny Productions put out a call to local authors for brief stories centered around the theme of “change” — in the broadest sense. Eleven stories were selected for the theater company’s first-ever readers theater performance. I’m happy to say that my story “Sub” opens the show!

Personally, I’m a big huge fan of reader’s theater. Like radio drama, or better yet, like stories told around a camp fire, it invites the listener’s imagination to the party and encourages it to play with abandon.

This looks to be a rollicking line-up:

“Sub”, by Jan Flynn, St. Helena
“Spare the Rod” by Cristina Goulart, Santa Rosa
“Don’t Get Me Wrong” by Patsy Ann Taylor, Napa
“Into the Box”, by Jean Wong, Kenwood
“The Boat Ride”, by Henry Michalski, Napa
“The Note”, by Meta Strauss, Sonoma
“Pirouette”, by Robbi Sommers Bryant, Santa Rosa
“Hurtling Jade”, by Jean Wong, Kenwood
“The Savoy Theatre Singing Competition”, by Ann Cash, Napa
“Dusk”, by Jennifer Sullivan, Pope Valley
“Joy Ride”, by Lenore Hirsch, Napa

So if you’re in or near or heading to Napa Valley this weekend, please join the fun! One performance only, on Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $10 and children under 16 are admitted free. Tickets are available online – follow this link  – or call 707-266-6305.

Hope to see you there!

Next week, as promised: we meet up with Jack London meeting up with the loveUnknown-1 of his life, his muse, his partner in adventure, the extraordinary Charmian. Such romance!

Are you or have you ever been a Jack London fan? Please share!
