The safety is off

  1. What a chilling haiku! Beautifully done using so few words! When I first began teaching, I taught at a middle school. There was one young freckle-faced young man in my class who had that mischievous twinkle in his eye. The year I taught, he came to school one day with his leg in a cast. He had stolen his dad’s car and wrecked it! The year after I left, I read about him in the paper. He had found his father’s gun and was showing it to friends when it discharged, killing him. He was 14. We need to encourage laws that promote “safer” gun technology to prevent exactly this type of tragedy.

  2. Oh, what a heartbreaking story, Laurie. And yet it happens so often in this country. I couldn’t agree with you more.
