Coming From A Fellow Blogger, It Means a Lot

Enormous and heartfelt thanks to Hannah at Books and Bakes ! She was kind enough to nominate me for the Blogger Recognition Award, and I will herewith pass along her quote from Reasons2Stay who nominated her:

“The award is a way that we recognize and support each other as bloggers, and especially to show that we appreciate how much time, work, energy, and effort goes into producing and maintaining a high-quality blog. It is a humbling experience to be recognized from my fellow blogger.”

It’s lovely when those who share your zeal for a particular form of expression — be it writing, visual arts, dance, or whatever medium — take note of your efforts and extend their regard and support. I gotta say, it feels darn good.

This award is also a delightful method for promoting sharing and support among fellow bloggers, so it comes with rules:

Thank the blogger that nominated you.

Write a post to show your award.

Give a brief story of how your blog started.

Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.

Select other bloggers to give this award to.

Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

I am all about rules (especially fun ones) so here goes:

Again, deep thanks to Books and Bakes!

Full admission: I’m quite enjoying tooting my own horn by posting about the award, as you can see.

How My Blog Started:

In March of 2016, it occurred to me that the most effective way to become a “real” writer was to write — regularly, no matter what — and to develop the fortitude to send that writing out into the world. I post weekly, and no matter what other projects I have going on, to date I haven’t missed a week. My first efforts, now that I look back on them, were sometimes cringe-worthy, but I’ve found the blogging world to be exceptionally welcoming and forgiving. It’s a great way to learn how to write on a self-imposed deadline, and along the way I’ve made some wonderful blogging buddies.

Advice for New Bloggers:

  1. As per the Nike slogan: just do it. Give it a whirl and see how it feels. Find other blogs you admire and take some cues from them, but keep in mind they’ve probably been at it for some time, so cut yourself some slack. Blogging is a fairly low-risk undertaking: if you don’t like your first efforts, or even your first website platform, you can change it up. It’s most definitely a case of learn-by-doing.
  2. Write from your heart, or your gut, or wherever your inspiration comes from, but do keep your reader in mind. Blogging may sometimes be very personal, but it’s not quite the same thing as journaling. Your reader should be able to get something worthwhile from your posts. Also, proofread (okay, that might be a third piece of advice, but bear with me; I’m a recovering English teacher).

My Nominations:

  1. Building A Better Story
  2. Meditations In Motion
  3. Book Club Mom

Cheers to all who are part of the blogging community!
