TORONTO JOURNAL
"The Final Straw," my short story contribution to this journal, is very close to my heart, though not an exact rendition of my experience of slowly losing a loved one to a progressive neurological disease.
INTO THE WOODS
This volume contains my story “Cord”. it is a short tale in the speculative/light horror realm, in which a boy confronts the dark force that emerges from the forest at night — and the equally malevolent power structure that’s willing to betray him, his family, and one extraordinary, heroic mule.
FISH GATHER TO LISTEN
This collection contains my story “Itself,” a short story with a blend of horror, humor, and fantasy, about a many-limbed monster that takes up residence under the town bridge and demands a yearly tribute of human flesh. The town fathers, tradition-minded, interpret that to mean a young maiden —which works out fine for the monster, until it meets the wrong girl.
CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL
(Lessons Learned from My Dog)
I have two true stories in this collection: “Our Dog, the Porch Pirate” about a Golden Retriever with a thing for stealing the neighbors’ newspapers; and “How My Dog Rescued Me, And Probably Will Again.”
All profits from sales of this book go to The American Humane Society.
FIRST PRESS
Two of my short speculative stories appear in this first anthology from Napa Valley Writers: “Dummy,” in which a boy suspects that his uneasiness about the giant oak tree whose branches scrape against his window at night — as well as the strange new kid in town — are somehow related; and “Dollbaby,” set in an alternate American West and concerning the stranger who comes to town with a mysterious trunk.
MERITAGE
The second anthology from Napa Valley Writers, containing my short personal essay “Circus Act,” about the weirdest summer job I ever had. A grumpy llama was involved, among others.
THE BINNACLE
This edition contains my speculative flash piece, “Toro.” Because the bull in the ring deserves better.
INTO THE WOODS
In my short story “Downstairs” a boy whose father is disappointed in his distaste for hunting animals discovers a unique escape into freedom in the wild.
NOYO RIVER REVIEW
An excerpt from my work-in-progress historical novel The Moon Ran After Her, based on the real-life stories of the women in my extended family who survived the Armenian Genocide, this piece won First Place in the novel category at the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference contest.
